The first abutment part 4 of the leveling device 1 is intended to be abutted against a first reference surface on one side of the substrate to be leveled and the second abutment surface 5 of the leveling device is intended to abut against a second reference surface on the other side of the substrate to be leveled. The reference surfaces may consist of stops, edges or the like on each side of the surface to be leveled. In use, the leveling tool is moved along the reference surfaces, whereby a leveling of the substrate takes place. The method of using the leveling device consists of prior art and is therefore not described in more detail in this patent application.
The shaft part 2 of the leveling device 1 comprises at least a first elongate part 7 and at least a second elongate part 8 which are connected to each other via at least one connecting device. By connection device is meant one or more details which enable an interconnection of the first elongate part 7 and the second elongate part 8 with each other.
The connecting device allows a mutual movement of the elongate parts 7 and 8.
The first part 7 and the second part 8 of the leveling device each comprise at least one lower edge 9, the edges 9 of which, during the leveling work, engage with the substrate to be leveled.
The leveling device 1 according to the present patent application comprises at least one function with which the length of the leveling device 1 can be adjusted. In the exemplary embodiments, this consists in that the joint length of the first elongate part 7 and the second elongate part 8 can be reduced and increased, respectively. The maximum projection and the maximum separation thereof, respectively, may vary within the scope of the present patent application. The maximum contraction, respectively the projection, of the first elongate part 7 and the second elongate part 8 can be limited.
The limitation may be that at least one of the elongate parts comprises at least one elongate groove 10 in the longitudinal direction of the elongate part. In the groove 10 a pin or the like, connected to the second elongate part comprises, intended to be inserted into the elongate groove in the first elongate part. The construction comprises a function with which the elongate parts 7 and 8 can be temporarily locked together. The reading takes place with at least one locking device 11 of a previously known type suitable for the purpose. With the function, the length of the leveling device can be adapted to the width of the surface to be leveled.
The first part 7, preferably constituting a profile, comprises at least a first set of grooves 12 and protruding segments 13. The profiles can for instance be produced via extrusion or another method suitable for the purpose. The second part 8, preferably constituting a profile, further comprises at least a second set of grooves 14 and protruding segments 15. The grooves and the protruding segments in the first part are intended to be connected to the protruding segments and grooves in the second part. The joint coupling allows the first part and the second part to be pushed together and apart in the longitudinal direction of the parts, but is substantially prevented from moving in the transverse directions of the parts (in relation to the longitudinal direction of the parts).
The leveling device 1 according to the present patent application comprises at least one function with which the height between the abutment parts 4 and 6 in relation to the edge 9 can be adjusted.
The function for adjusting the height is achieved by at least one height-adjusting device 16. With the height-adjusting device, an adjustment of the height in relation to the thickness of the tiles or the like to be laid can be made possible. Preferably, the leveling tool, as shown in the exemplary embodiment, comprises at least a first height adjusting device 16 and at least a second height adjusting device 17. With the height adjusting devices 16 and 17 the height between the reference surfaces relative to the ironed surface can take place. In the exemplary embodiment, the height adjusting devices 16 and 17 comprise at least one adjusting unit 18 with which a stepwise adjustment of the height can take place. The step-by-step adjustment is made possible by the fact that the abutment parts consist of at least three, and preferably a number of steps, and that the height depends on the chosen step.
In the exemplary embodiment of the leveling tool, at least one first adjusting means (a first wing) comprises 19 and at least one second adjusting means (a second wing) 20.
The first adjusting means 19 is intended to be movably connected to the free end 21 of the first elongate part 7. The second adjusting means 19 is intended to be movably connected to the free end 22 of the second elongate part 8. By advancing the first the adjusting means 19 and the second adjusting means 20 in the direction of the free ends of the elongate parts or in the direction from the free ends a height adjustment can take place.
The first adjusting member 19 is interconnected with the first elongate member 7. The first adjusting member 19 is displaceably arranged according to portions of the length of the first elongate member 7. The second adjusting member 20 is coupled to the second elongate member. The second adjusting means 20 is displaceably arranged according to parts of the length of the second elongate part 8. By moving the first adjusting means 19 after the first elongate part 7 and the second adjusting means 20 after the second elongate part 8, an adjustment of the height between the contact surfaces in relation to the edge take place.
The position of the first adjusting member 19 after the first elongate part 7 and the position of the second adjusting member after the elongate part 8 can be limited. The limitation can take place in that at least one of the elongate parts comprises at least one elongate groove 22 in the elongate part of the respective elongate part. In the groove 22, a pin or the like, connected to the second elongate member comprises, is intended to be inserted into the elongate groove 22 in the first elongate member. The construction comprises a function with which respective adjusting means 19 and 20 can be temporarily locked to the elongate parts 7 and 8. The reading takes place with at least one locking device 23 of a previously known type which is suitable for the purpose.
In the exemplary embodiment, the height adjustment takes place step by step with the adjusting device unit 18. In alternative embodiments, it is conceivable that the height adjustment unit consists of another construction suitable for the purpose. It is thus conceivable that the device for height adjustment consists of a height adjustment unit with which a stepless adjustment of the height can take place.
When using the leveling device 1 in accordance with the present patent application, an adjustment of the width of the implement first takes place, after which an adjustment of the height takes place. However, it is conceivable that an adjustment of the height takes place before an adjustment of the width takes place.
In an alternative embodiment, the first part 7 and the second part 8 of the leveling device comprise replaceable edges 9. The replaceability of the edge 9 on the shaft part 2 means that edges with different structures (against the substrate) can be connected to the leveling device. This in turn means that different structures on the leveled surface can be created.
Referring to Figures 4A to 4C, an alternative embodiment of the present equalizer is shown. In this embodiment, the first elongate part 7 and the second elongate part 8 are preferably made of bent sheet metal. The first elongate part 7 and the second elongate part 8 can, however, in alternative embodiments consist of tubes. In the embodiment it is shown that the first elongate part 7 and the second elongate part 8 in the height direction (height direction in use) comprise a first elongate portion (part) 24 and a second elongate portion (part) which are mutually angled relative to each other. The mutual angle between the first part 24 and the second part 25 has the technical effect that the material on the surface can be affected in two different ways depending on how the leveling tool is turned in relation to the direction of the saw. The diagrams show an embodiment of the locking means 11 and 23 which consist of screw connections. The exemplary screw connection comprises at least one screw and at least one wing nut.
In the detailed description of the present invention, structural details may be omitted which are obvious to a person skilled in the art in the technical field the leveling device is part of. Such obvious construction details are included to the extent required to obtain a proper function of the present method and device. Although certain preferred embodiments have been shown in more detail, variations and modifications of the device may become apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention pertains. All such modifications and variations are considered to fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Advantages of the Invention With the present invention, a number of advantages are achieved. The most obvious advantage is that a leveling device is obtained whose width in relation to the surface to be leveled can be adjusted. Another advantage is that a leveling device is obtained whose height in relation to the surface to be leveled can be adjusted. It is a further advantage of the present leveling tool that the structure of the leveled surface can be varied, by replacing the replaceable edges of the elongate parts.
